Rules

Project Dorm Room is a contest open to Bryn Mawr College resident undergraduate students. We are looking for the best dorm rooms on campus! Prizes will be awarded to a winner in each dorm (Best in Dorm). Grand Prizes will be awarded to each participating resident of the overall winning room (Best of Bryn Mawr), chosen from the Best in Dorm winners.

Important Dates:

  • The entry form opens on Wednesday, October 24th at 9AM.
  • Entry forms are due Monday, November 5th at 9AM.
  • Voting will occur throughout November and early December.
  • Winners will be announced in early December.

Rules:
1. All Residential Life policies must be observed (including, but not limited to, no painting of walls, no unapproved appliances, no fire hazards, all Bryn Mawr College furniture present, etc.). A full listing of Residential Life policies is available on the College website at www.brynmawr.edu/residentiallife, or in the current Student Handbook.

2. No visible drug paraphernalia or promotional materials.

3. No visible pornography or obscene material.

4. Only one image per contestant is permitted. Please see Ideas and Resources for how to make the most of this one image!

5. All residents of each room must agree to enter the contest. In the spirit of the Honor Code, the consent to enter the contest must be obtained from all roommates by the student submitting the entry form PRIOR to entering. By submitting the entry form, the contestant certifies that they have talked with each roommate and obtained their consent.

6. Prizes will only be awarded to roommates explicitly listed on the original entry form. If more than one person in a multiple occupancy room is entering the contest because shared space is included in the image submitted, the names of these roommates must be included on the original entry form in order to be considered participants.

7. Each student is only permitted to enter the contest once. For instance, if you live in a multiple occupancy room and choose to enter as an “individual,” you are not permitted to then also enter as a “multiple occupancy” with your roommates.

8. The use of Photoshop or similar programs to enhance photos/images is not permitted in this contest. Please note that the use of programs to create photo collages and resize photos is permitted. Please see the Ideas and Resources page for more info.

9. Images submitted by contestants must be under 100 KB in size, under 400 pixels wide, and under 500 pixels tall. Contestants that do not submit photographs within the size limit may be disqualified. The size limit is designed to create an easier voting experience for the people judging your rooms! Larger photos are slower to load, may be difficult to view, and could inhibit the voting process. NOTE: You can check the file size by right clicking on the image icon and clicking “Properties” (Windows) or right/control+clicking on the image icon and clicking “Get Info”. You can resize or crop an image using photo editing software on your computer (common programs include Paint in Windows and iPhoto on Macs).
Specific links that provide instructions for resizing photos and files in different programs can be found on the Ideas & Resources page. You can also google how to resize picture files. There are some very helpful step by step directions available on the web!

10. Image files submitted by each contestant must be saved in the following format using your name and dormitory: name_dorm.jpg (example: viannabernard_rhoadsnorth.jpg). Contestants that do not save their pictures in this format may be disqualified.

11. Videos, slideshows, and gifs are not permitted.

12. Entries will be judged on the basis of the photo/image submitted by residents. In submitting these photographs, residents give permission for any images taken during this process to be used indefinitely on Bryn Mawr College’s website for the purposes of providing visual examples of dorm rooms. Participants must understand that online images will be viewed by anyone visiting the College’s website.

13. All contest deadlines must be met.

Guidelines:
Project Dorm Room is designed to be a fun competition. Voters are looking for creativity, ingenuity, and style. Residents should not invest money into improving their rooms for the purposes of this contest. Entries will not be judged on how expensive rooms appear to be, but on the interesting and creative ways that residents have decided to work with limited means and spaces.
